Living in a country with high rate of violence affects everyone. You don’t need to be murdered or kidnapped to turn into a victim; the simple fact of knowing that tomorrow it could be you, or someone that you love, makes you a victim automatically.
This portfolio is a personal view on what fear of violence is, and how present and tangible it is for many of us.
Venezuela, my home country, has the second highest murder rate in the world (after Honduras). It is a common thing to hear bad news about someone that you actually know, at least once a week. You don't have to read or watch the news anymore to know about kidnapping, raping, robbery or murder. You can't go to the police; they wont help you (they could probably make things worse for the victim). You don't trust or help anyone, because everyone is a potential danger to you and your family. Not even at home, your personal cage, you're safe.
